ExpressBus grants the following discounts off the normal adult fare on single tickets for travel within Finland. The discounts apply to a minimum distance of 80 km and tickets must be purchased in advance. Each passenger is only entitled to one discount.
A maximum of two children under 4 can travel free of charge when the group includes one passenger 12 years of age or older.
Passengers are required to present a card or document showing that they are entitled to the discount (e.g. youth or pensioner discount) when boarding a bus.
Single bus tickets for journeys of at least 80 km including 1-2 transfers are priced according to the total distance travelled, if the cost of the trip calculated in this way is lower than the price payable for separate tickets for each leg of the journey. Since the discounts awarded to young people include a range of options specific to individual towns and fleet operators, youth fares with transfers are processed as separate trips regardless of the total distance travelled.
Bus tickets purchased from Matkahuolto are valid for a period of one (1) month from the date of purchase or from the date of departure shown on the ticket. Seat reservations are only valid for the departure shown on the ticket.
The discount amounts to 50 per cent of the price of a normal single ticket for a one-way trip of at least 80 km. The discount is granted by presenting a student card jointly issued by Matkahuolto and VR or by presenting a student card bearing the Matkahuolto emblem and issued by a student organisation. The student discount is granted only upon presentation of a Finnish student card; an international student card does not entitle the holder to a discount. Discount tickets can be purchased on buses or at bus stations.
